Universal Plug and Play consists of several protocols or rules that enable networked hardware devices and software applications to communicate and work together without end user configuration. Gnome Music should be able to browse DLNA but I couldn't get that to work, let alone to render to some other machine. Besides that it is quite an overkill for using it as a player only Kodi leaves the whole raspberry box unusable for anything else as I can't switch it to windowed mode (there is no such setting in system/display anymore) VLC can browse files from a DLNA-Box and render them locally but not send them to another Box. Works like: Browse files on DLNA-Box1, Render on DLNA-Box2, but control (start, stop, pause, browse) from android mobile. With this app I can browse the files on one DLNA-Box and tell them to play them on another DLNA-Box. For controlling them I use BubbleUPnP on an android mobile.
